أصبح الإعلام يلعب دوراً بارزاً في تنمية شباب المجتمع وتشكيل وعيه، وقد تعززت أهمية الإعلام وتأثيره في المجتمع نتيجة التطور التكنولوجي المتسارع الذي أحدث نقلة في وسائل الاتصال، وأصبح الإعلام القوة الأكثر تأثيراً في حياة الشباب والمجتمع بشكل عام، ومن هنا يأتي دور وسائل الاعلام في مواجهة التطرف الفكري، والحاجة الماسة إلى كود مهني يرشد أداء الإعلام في التعامل مع الحوادث الإرهابية، يرصد نقاط القوة والضعف في الأداء الإعلامي في معالجة هذه القضية المهمة، وأهمية دور الإعلام المهني والوطني في حث جميع مؤسسات المجتمع الرسمية والأهلية لمواجهة الإرهاب والتطرف بجميع صوره، فاجتثاث جذور الإرهاب لا يمكن تحقيقه بالمواجهة الأمنية فحسب، وفي النهاية يجب تفعيل دور الإعلام في متابعة ورصد وتقييم أداء جميع المؤسسات الدينية والثقافية والتعليمية في مواجهة الفكر المتطرف، أي بحاجة إلى تعاون الجميع لمواجهة هذه الآفة التي شاع انتشارها في العالم بشكل عام والمنطقة العربية بشكل خاص.
